Westcoast Sooke 10k Race Guide

Race guide: The Westcoast Running Sooke 10k has it all! The race is set on a rolling out and back course on Sooke River Rd beginning and ending at Edward Milne School, with the turnaround at the entrance to Sooke Potholes. Alongside the 10k, this event also features the Superfun Kid's 1k race at 10:45am!

More than just a great race, the Westcoast Sooke 10k has a incredible lineup of food, drinks, and other vendors for the post race festivities. The Sooke Lions Club will be cooking a pancake breakfast which includes celiac friendly options, and Fernwood Pizza has donated vegan pizzas for those following plant based diets. Beer will also available from Driftwood Brewery and Whistle Buoy Brewing Co. 

Looking to improve your recovery game? A number of different vendors will be at Edward Milne School post race - Wesley Wood from Stratos Performance Nutrition, KALDR Cold Plunges and Sauna Tents, as well as Parkway Physiotherapy! Bring a bathing suit if you're feeling brave enough to try a cold plunge post-race, or hit up the folks at Parkway Physiotherapy for a massage either pre or post race

If you haven't already picked up your bib for the island race series, bib pickup for the Westcoast Sooke 10k will be inside the main entrace to Edward Milne School on race day (Sunday, March 10th) between 09:00 to 10:30am. Parking will be available at the school.

Our Experience

If you're new to racing 10k you're in luck - we chatted with Island Series Ambassador Sander Nederveen about some of his tips for racing the 10km distance:

"Start easy and then for the second half surprise yourself. For the first 5 kilometers, keep it relatively easy - in the second half, be okay with feeling uncomfortable. If you're feeling comfortable you're not racing hard enough, but also don't throw up."
